The St. Bonaventure University ( St. Bonaventure University ) in Allegany, Cattaraugus County, New York, is a Catholic university sponsored by the Franciscan Order.

The Catholic college and seminary with the name of the Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure teacher was founded on behalf of John Timon, Bishop of Buffalo, on October 4, 1858 by four Franciscans. The facility received state recognition in 1875 and 1950 the official name of the university. Since the early 20th century its affiliated the School of Franciscan Studies and the Franciscan Institute.
