St. Faith's Church, Sélestat

The parish church of Sainte -Foy (Saint- Faith Church) is a former abbey church in Sélestat ( Schlettstadt ), a municipality of the French département Bas- Rhin in Alsace. History

From the previous building from the 11th century, founded by the Countess Hildegard von Eguisheim, just a square, exposed in 1892 crypt is preserved.

The currently visible church building was constructed from 1170 to 1180 with funds donated by Frederick Barbarossa and is distinguished by its stylistic uniformity and balanced proportions.

The church served first as a Benedictine priory. Later, she was for a time part of a Jesuit college and converted stylistically largely under the influence of this movement. End of the 19th century the architect Charles Winkler restored the building back to its original state.

Equipment
