St. Marx Abbey

The Alsatian convent of St. Marx (French Couvent Saint -Marc ), founded in 1105, was under the supervision of the Benedictine monastery of St. Georgen in the Black Forest and until the 18th century a priory of the Black Forest Monastery.

1105 dated historical research the founding of the Benedictine nunnery dedicated to St. Mark, St. Marx in the Alsatian Rouffach. Before there was a community of monks existed, but one was destroyed by fire. The St. Georgen Theoger Abbot (1088-1119) he had founded the convent which, according to a document of Pope Lucius III. (1181-1185) was assumed in 1184 the Pastoral Care of St. Georgen monastery. Around 1400, a monk of St. Georgen is mentioned as Prior, also owned by the community of women in donor Schweier and Osenbach. The St. Georgen priory came in 1754 at the Alsatian monastery Ebersmunster.
