St. Mary Church, Diyarbakır

St. Mary's Church ( Syro -Aramaic ܐ ܕ ܝ ܠ ܕ ܬ ܐ ܠ ܗ ܐ, ` IDTO d- Yoldat Aloho, Dera Meryemê Kurdish, Turkish Meryem Ana Kilisesi ) is a Syrian Orthodox Church from the year 280 in Diyarbakir. It is now in the neighborhood Lâle -Bey.

As Diyarbakır was still known by his Assyrian name Amed, was the St. Mary's Church headquarters of the Church of the East. As the headquarters of the Patriarchs they brought forth numerous Assyrian theologians and patriarchs. Some of them found their final resting place in St. Mary's Church. The church has numerous relics, as the bones of the Apostle Saint Thomas and Saint James of Serugh.

The building was built in the 1st century BC, first as a pagan temple. The current building dates back to the 3rd century and was restored several times. It is still used by the Aramaic Christians of the city, which represent only a small minority since the genocide against the Assyrians, as a place of worship.
