St. Peter (Graz)

St. Peter is the 8th district of Graz. It was founded in 1938 from the former St. Peter street villages, exhibition village ( mentioned in 1233 ), Neufeld, Peterstal and Peter Bergen formed.

History

The beginnings of the German colonization of the eastern basin of Graz are suppose to put in the middle of the 11th century. St. Peter was originally called Treme village and is still referred to in the Babenberg land register of 1220/30, so. 1258 seems to be in a deed of gift to the monastery of Rein among the witnesses of the Knights of St. Peter Wulfing ( Wluingus miles de Sancto Petro): obviously, the village name was changed in the meantime. At the same time the document is the oldest written proof of a Church in St. Peter. However, the archaeological evidence indicates a small Romanesque church, which must have existed for some time then. Treme village was situated in the territory of the great princely possessions; it might therefore have been built a proprietary church of the middle class family before the foundation of Graz.

1294 Ortolf a pastor is called by St. Peter in documents. Although belonged to St. Peter until the 20th century as "Eternal Vicariate " to Graz city parish, the vicar of St. Peter, however, were always called " pastor " and possessed benefices and other special rights, they equally represented other pastors quasi.

1532 St. Peter was taken by the Turkish invasions. The church was also at least partially destroyed, but already inaugurated in 1535 again.

The incorporation into the city of Graz was 1938. Since then, an intense building activity was recorded, which has the rural character largely overprinted. St. Peter is a popular residential area today.
