The Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor is a football stadium with track and field facility and is located in the West African port city of Dakar, capital of Senegal.

History

First established in 1985 by then President Abdou Diouf inaugurated Sports Venue Stade de l' Amitié was called ( German Stadion der Freundschaft ). In 2001 the plant was awarded in honor of the former president ( 1960-1980), poet Leopold Sedar Senghor and who died on 20 December 2001, its name.

The venue has a capacity of 60,000 seats and is the home stadium of the Senegalese national football team and the football club ASC Jeanne d' Arc. In 1992, the stadium was the venue of a total of 14 games of the African Cup of Nations, including six group matches and the matches of the final round including the final.

The stadium also finds the Athletics Grand Prix event meeting IAAF de Dakar, which belongs since 2010 to the IAAF World Challenge instead.
