The Stadio Provinciale Polisportivo is a football stadium with track and field facility in the Italian town of Erice in Sicily. It can accommodate 6,776 spectators and is the club Trapani Calcio as homestead.
History
The Stadio Provinciale Polisportivo in Erice, a town with about 30,000 inhabitants in the province of Trapani, was built between 1957-1960 and opened in the latter year. For the first game in the new stadium, the future users club, the football club Trapani Calcio and AS Taranto met for a friendly match, which was won by the home team 3-2. Furthermore, a comprehensive renovation took place at the stadium, which is owned by the Province of Trapani, 1987. The capacity of the sports facility is now 6,776 spectator seats, which without the rules of the Italian Football Federation actually 10,000 spectators would find space here. Since the user association Trapani Calcio in Serie B, however, is ascended, security-related regulations are to be observed, which include the reduction of the capacity to 6,776 seats among others.
Stadio Provinciale Polisportivo is used since its construction in 1960 by the Trapani Calcio football club. The club played for many years unterklassig, never came out on the third- highest division. Only in the 2012/13 season came with the achievement of first place in the Girona A of Lega Pro Prima Divisione the initial promotion to Serie B. Trapani Calcio is one of the few clubs in Italy's professional football, of its home games in another place discharges. It is considered that the city of Trapani is greater than Erice. In the years 1988 to 1990, the Stadio Polisportivo Provinciale also U.S. Palermo served in some games as a home because their stadium La Favorita was extensively renovated in preparation for which takes place in Italy Football World Cup 1990 and thus no game operation was possible.
Also matches have already been carried out at the Stadio Provinciale Polisportivo. In 1997, the national teams from Italy and Brazil met for a friendly match in Erice, the Italians won 1-0. As early as the 1980s, some matches of the Italian women's team had been held here. 2003 and 2007, the stadium was also the backdrop for two U-21 competitions.
