The stadium Poljud is the home of the traditional Croatian football team HNK Hajduk Split. It also bears the nickname Poljudska ljepotica ( " The beauty of Poljud ").

As a football venue, it serves regularly HNK Hajduk Split and frequently the Croatian national football team. As a multifunctional stadium is also used for athletics meetings or concerts.

Architecture

The stadium was built in the same district Poljud according to designs by Boris Magaš with an unusual roof structure in the form of an open clam.

Originally, the stadium could hold 55,000 people. This number was reduced to 34,448 seats today by waiving standing. On the south stand to part no spectators can take place.

History

The stadium was built in 1979 on the occasion of the 8th Mediterranean Games. Here in 1990 the European Athletics Championships were held. In 2010, the IAAF World Cup was in the stadium in Split as a guest.
