The Stadionul Municipal is a multi-purpose arena in the Romanian city of Sibiu.

History

1927 on the former site of the horse artillery behind the military school of swimming Terenul Sportiv ONEF ( Pitch dimensions: 68x110 meters) built. It was played in order to generate more money for the completion of this new sports field a tournament. The games were held on June 12, 1927 instead and had the following output: HTV - NSE 3:2 ( 3:0) and Soimii Sibiu - Medias Aviaţia 4:2 ( 2:2 ). From this point Terenul Sportiv O.N.E.F. was provided the only discharge location for the football games in Sibiu and for the official field handball games, which led to some confusion in the recognition of game results in the 1927/28 season. Over the years, the stadium has been upgraded and renamed several times, first in Metalul and later in Soimii. From 1977 to 1981 it was rebuilt and enlarged to 12,000 spectators, 1982, a new grandstand was created; Today, the capacity is 14,200 spectators. Present is next to the service area of the grandstand a 400 - meter running track, an electronic scoreboard and west of the Runds before a stadium grandstand own park.

Home Teams

After the Second World War, the stadium was for many years the venue of the second division CSM Sibiu and its successor club Soimii Sibiu. This rose in 1986 from the Divizia C and made the FC Inter Sibiu, a Neuaufsteiger in the Divizia B space. FC Inter played from 1988 to 1996 in Divizia A, the highest football league in the country, before four more seasons followed in Divizia B until its dissolution in November 2000. From 2003 until its dissolution in 2007 one of the second-division club FC Sibiu the stadium. Since 2009, here plays CSU vointa Sibiu, the 2011 promotion to the Liga 1 managed.

In July 2010, the stadium for the use of Premier League matches has been released .. Thus, it could serve as a home venue for the first division side Gaz Metan Medias in the 2010/11 season, the stadium underwent renovations.

In Stadionul Municipal Romanian national football team so far done three friendly matches from: on March 27, 1985 against Poland (0-0 ) on November 23, 1988 against Israel ( 3-0) and on 29 March 1989 against Italy (1-0 ).
