Stadtwerke München GmbH ( SWM) is one of the largest municipal service providers and one of the largest energy companies in Germany. Sole shareholder is the state capital of Munich.

Current

Under the name "M- current " drive SWM electricity to residential and business customers. SWM in the city of Munich and the Munich region operators of twelve hydroelectric power plants, several plants that generate electricity from renewable energy and the three thermal power stations South, North and Freimann, which generate around 70 % of electricity with combined heat and power generation. SWM are involved and its subsidiaries also a 25% nuclear power plant Isar 2.

Gas

As part of the European grid SWM provide their customers with natural gas. This is also mirrored its own underground storage. The SWM operates eight natural gas filling stations in Munich, where regenerative biomethane can be refueled.

District heating

In their heat and power plants and heating plants produce SWM district heating, which is distributed over 800 km of steam and hot water networks to large building and house connections and is used for heating and production of hot water.

District cooling

By removing accumulated at an underground building ground water is provided through a network of pipes district cooling for industrial customers environmentally friendly disposal. The slightly heated ground water is then fed back into the flow of groundwater.

Water

Bathrooms

The SWM operates in Munich ten indoor swimming pools and eight outdoor pools, which were successively modernized since 1992. M- Regeneratio

The SWM write an annual prize named M- Regeneratio, a neologism derived from the words " renewable energy sources " and " Energy Conservation " for theses at Bavarian universities and universities and the Technical University of Dresden. The award is endowed with 10,000 euros.
