The Staedtler Mars GmbH & Co. KG (proper spelling STAEDTLER ), headquartered in Nuremberg is one of the oldest industrial companies and one of the oldest manufacturer of writing instruments in Germany. The company employs approximately 2,200 people and is Europe 's largest producer of lead and colored pencils. Approx. 80 percent of the writing instruments are manufactured in Nuremberg.
History
The company was founded on October 3, 1835 by Johann Sebastian Staedtler as a factory for the manufacture of pencils. Already his ancestor Friedrich Staedtler worked as a " white lead pencil maker" and was documented in 1662 in the books of the city of Nuremberg.
