Stagmatophora heydeniella

Stagmatophora is a genus of butterflies of the family splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths are small and lanceolate forewings with a pointed apex. The ground color of the fore wings ranges from reddish orange to dark brown. For casement drawing include Costalflecke or bind, often raised spots are available. A Frans line is either created or missing. The hind wings are very narrow.

In the males, the Tegumen is well trained. The Brachia are highly asymmetrical: the right brachium is much longer than the left. The Valven are broad and roundish. Valvella the right is larger than the left. The aedeagus has a bulbous base and a long, tubular distal part.

In females, the posterior Apophyses are longer than the anterior Apophyses. The sterigma is roundish. The ductus bursae is narrow and membranous. The corpus bursae is elongate, membranous and has two inwardly projecting Signa.

Dissemination

The representatives of the genus are native to Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Biology

The only native to Europe type Stagmatophora heydeniella feeding on Labiatae ( Lamiaceae).

System

The type species of the genus is Oecophora heydeniella Fischer of Röslerstamm, 1841.

In the past, many species have been assigned to other genera, such as Eteobalea, Vulcaniella, lsidiella, Hodgesiella and Tolliella. According to S. Yu. Sinev is only p heydeniella safely be assigned to the genus Stagmatophora. For all other currently identified to this genus species belonging to S. Yu. Sinev uncertain, therefore they are marked with a question mark.
