Stan Lazaridis

Stan " Skippy " Lazaridis ( born August 16, 1972 in Perth ) is a former Australian football player.

Career

The left defensive midfielder of Greek descent began his career at Floreat Athena and later at West Adelaide SC in the first Australian Football League. In 1996 he moved to West Ham United, where he previously played in the short term in the youth team. From the season 1999/2000 the Socceroos play at Birmingham City. In 2006 he moved into the A-League for Perth Glory, where he played until 2008 before he was dropped from the squad after he finished his career.

National

Lazaridis played 71 times in the Australian national football team. In November 2005, with the national team, he managed to sensational qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2006, as one of the favorites Uruguay threw out in the relegation. In May 2006 he was nominated for the squad for the World Cup. At the 2006 World Cup, he was no use. The " Socceroos " reached surprising that knockout round where you retired in the last minute against Italy (0-1). Lazaridis last international match was a friendly against Paraguay (1-1). He was replaced in the 50th minute.

Due to a positive doping tests, he was the Australian Association in August 2007 - with retrospective effect from 27 November 2006 - suspended for one year. In a sample Lazaridis ' from this date finasteride had been proven. This agent had been recommended to him by doctors against his hair loss. Lazaridis had already used it, before it came to the WADA list of prohibited substances. Finasteride itself has no performance-enhancing effect, but may mask the use of other doping agents.
