Standard solution

A standard solution is a solution with exactly certain content (eg, 0.5 mol / l ) of a substance (eg, HCl). The content of a standard solution is called using a Reinstsubstanz, also original titer determined.

The nominal concentration of a standard solution is multiplied by a factor to obtain the effective concentration; This factor is called the titer. Standard solutions are used for example for volumetric titrations because of its accuracy and ensure the addition of a defined amount of substance.

Sometimes in standard solutions is not the molarity, but the equivalent concentration, outdated "normality" can be used. Corresponds to an equivalent of 1 N 1 mol / L (1 H 1 e or analog). Sometimes called transitional forms are used, for example: 1 mol / l (1/2 H2SO4) = 1 N (H2SO4 ) = 1 mol / l H .
