Stanisław Witkiewicz

Stanisław Witkiewicz ( born May 8, 1851 in Poszawsz, Lower Lithuania, † September 5, 1915 in Lovran, Croatia) was a Polish painter, architect, writer and art theoretician. He was the father of Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz ( Witkacy ).

Life

Stanisław Witkiewicz was the son of Ignacy Witkiewicz and his wife Elvira born Szemioth.

Witkiewicz studied from 1869 to 1871 in Petersburg, and then from 1872 to 1875 in Munich. After graduating, he returned to Poland and worked for the magazine wedrowiec as an art critic. In 1890 he moved to Zakopane, and inspired by the art of the " highlanders ", he designed and built numerous spacious villas and their designed interiors in the Zakopane style. For his contributions to the city Zakopane him honorary citizenship was granted. As a painter, he created in particular landscapes of the High Tatras and scenes of the January Uprising in 1863.
