Stanley A. Prokop

Stanley A. Prokop ( born July 29, 1909 in Throop, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, † 11 November 1977, in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1959 and 1961 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Stanley Prokop attended the common schools and graduated from Villanova University afterwards. During the Second World War he was a soldier in an infantry unit of the U.S. Army. He rose to become captain. After that, he was mayor of Lackawanna. He also sat for ten years in the school committee of the North Pocono District. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1958, per capita income was in the tenth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Joseph L. Carrigg on January 3, 1959. Since he has not been confirmed in 1960, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1961. This period was marked by the events of the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Stanley Prokop held some local offices in Lackawanna County. Among other things, he was there for 14 years director of Veterans Affairs. He died on November 11, 1977 in Lake Ariel.
