Stanley (Hongkong)

Stanley is a town on the south coast of Hong Kong Iceland at the Stanley Bay. Before the colonial period, the place was a well known meeting place for pirates and smugglers who called Chek Chue ( " robber camp" ).

Since colonization, he is a popular place of residence of foreigners in Hong Kong Iceland. The tourist offer is pronounced, especially there are many restaurants and shopping (especially the Stanley Market ).

History

After the annexation of Hong Kong in 1842 was Stanley the provisional British administrative center, before it was moved to the newly founded Victoria City on the north coast of the island of Hong Kong.

In Stanley, the last defense to British and Canadian troops before the surrender to the Japanese troops during the battle for Hong Kong were in December 1941. Stanley Fort, the former British barracks in Stanley, are used by the Chinese People's Liberation Army since 1997.
