Stansstad

Stansstad is a municipality in the canton of Nidwalden in Switzerland.

Geography

Stans is on the strait of Lake Lucerne, which separates the Alpnachersee from the rest of the lake. The village itself lies on the western foot of the Bürgenstock. To Stansstad includes the districts Obbürgen Fürigen Kehrsiten and part of Rotzlochs. Kehrsiten is located on the southern shore of Lake Lucerne, 3 km east of Stansstad. Obbürgen is located on a plateau of the guarantor Stocks immediately east of the village. Fürigen lies on a high plateau east of the village on the north flank of the guarantor Stocks. All these three districts bordering Bürgenstock, but which belongs to the city of Lucerne. Rotzloch is located on Alpnachersee. Of the total municipal area can 33.8% is used for agriculture. Almost half ( 49.9%) is covered by forest or woodland. As a settlement area one uses 14.9% of the municipal area; an additional 1.4 % is unproductive area. Demographics

Between 1850 and 1880 the population growth stagnated. In the period from 1850 to 1900 it increased by only 73 persons or 9.4 %. In the first half of the 20th century the population grew - from the time of the First World War apart - permanently, but only slowly ( from 1900 to 1950: 54.9 %). With the improvement of the traffic situation ( Achereggbrücke, rail link to Hergiswil - Lucerne, A2 motorway ) changed this. Stansstad also lowered the tax rate massively and became a ' tax haven ' as the neighboring community Hergiswil. This led to a rapid growth in population from 1950 to 2000 ( from 1950 to 2000: 228.1 %). In 2000, the population was formerly fivefold compared to 100 years. Since then, the growth has weakened somewhat. 2008 the number of inhabitants increased, however, again to 86 people or 1.9 %.

Languages

The population speaks a high- Alemannic dialect. Nidwaldnerdeutsch speak less and less. By adapting the locals and because of the many new residents, the majority speak a mixed dialect of German Lucerne with a sprinkling of other dialects. Almost the entire population speaks German as a daily vernacular. At the last census in 2000 gave 90.1 % German, 2.1% Italian and 1.5% Albanian as a primary language.

Religions - faiths

The population was formerly full member of the Roman Catholic Church. The confessional relations in 2000 can still recognize the original structure despite mixing. 2969 people were Catholic ( 68.65 %). There were 15.42% and 0.95 % Reformed Evangelical Orthodox Christians, Muslims 2.80% and 9.16% non-religious. 108 people ( 2.50% ) did not respond to their creed. In Stansstad there next to the Catholic Church of St. Anne in the village (1943 inaugurated ), two other Catholic churches in Obbürgen and Kehrsiten. There is also an ecumenical parish house. The Reformed visit normally (apart from ecumenical occasions in the parish hall ), the reformed church in Stans.

Origin - Nationality

Of the residents were end 2008 3882 ( 86.69 % ) Swiss nationals. The immigrants originate mainly from Central Europe ( Germany and Austria ), from southern Europe ( Italy and Portugal) and the former Yugoslavia (Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Bosnia- Herzegovina). At the 2000 census, 3768 people ( 87.12 %) were Swiss citizens; it possessed 211 people dual citizenship.

Age structure

The community has a balanced population structure. While the proportion of people under twenty constitutes 19.56 % of the local population, 18.77 % seniors (60 years and older). The largest age group consists of the people 30-44 years.

Economy

Main occupations were in former times farmers (mostly livestock ), cheese, Schiffer, timber merchants and fishermen. Until the 19th century it remained that way. The rotatable Achereggbrücke of 1860 left the proportion of Schiffer decline sharply. Today, in addition to small service companies offer a detergent factory, a gravel and concrete drive, a hard stone work, the construction industry, sawmills, wood, metal and boat building, the electronics industry, the central railway and logistics companies InterGate jobs. In Stansstad there was (2005) 2245 employees in 320 companies. 3.6 % of employees in Stansstad work in agriculture / forestry / fishing, 16.7 % in industry and 79.9 % and in service companies. The unemployment rate in 2007 was 1.49%. In 2000, there were 1486 workers in Stansstad. Of these, 696 ( 46.84 %) and 790 Zupendelnde locals. The Zupendelnden came halfway out of the narrow region. The largest contingent of people from the other set Nidwaldner communities (63 %); 16 % came from the Canton of Lucerne and 10% of Obwalden. In the same year, 2577 people from Stansstad were employed. Thus 1881 people worked in other communities. In the city of Lucerne commuted 449 persons ( = 23.9 % of all Wegpendelnden ) to Stans 385 persons ( 20.5%), to Hergiswil 145 persons ( 7.7%). Overall, 36.7 % commuted into other Nidwaldner communities. In contrast, 42.5 % in the Canton of Lucerne. Next 6 % worked in the Canton train and 5% in the canton of Obwalden (especially Sarnen and Alpnach ).

Traffic

The village was hit to the middle of the 19th century for large goods primarily with boats of Hergiswil or Lucerne. By land, there was the Allweg between Ennetmoos and core. After initial development Stansstads in the 1860s by the construction of the rotatable Achereggbrücke was following the Brünigstraße and therefore to Alpnach and the city of Lucerne. First railway connection within the Engelbergertals was the streetcar Stansstad Stans, which was opened in 1893. 1898 the electrified Stansstad -Engelberg -Bahn was opened. The desire for a connection to Lucerne was fulfilled in 1964. Railway company StEB was called from there to Luzern- Stans- Engelberg -Bahn. Since the construction of the new Achereggbrücke and construction of the A2 Stansstad is traffic-technically extremely well developed.
