Stara Białka

Stara Białka ( German Altweißbach also Old Weissenbach ) is a district of the rural community Lubawka ( Liebau ) in the powiat Kamiennogórski in the Province of Lower Silesia in Poland.

Geography

Stara Białka located in the Giant Mountains eleven kilometers southwest of Kamiennogórska. Neighboring towns are Pisarzowice in the north, Janiszów ( John village) and Przedwojów ( Reich Henner village) in the Northeast, Krzeszów in the east, Jawiszów ( Kleinhennersdorf ) in the southeast, Paprotki ( Urban Hartau ) in the south, Miszkowice and Jarkowice ( Hermsdorf ) in the southwest and Szarocin in the northwest.

History

Altweißbach was first mentioned in 1305 as Wysbach and later referred to as Wiesbach. It belonged to the Duchy of Świdnica and Jawor, with which it came in 1392 to the Crown of Bohemia. After the First Silesian War, it fell in 1742 together with Silesia to Prussia. After the reorganization of Prussia in 1815 it belonged to the province of Silesia and was from 1816 the county Landeshut incorporated, with which it was connected until 1945. It formed its own rural community and belonged since 1874 along with John Village, Lower Blasdorf and the Gutsbezirk low Blasdorf to the Official District Blasdorf b. Liebau i Schleswig. 1939 lived 370 inhabitants in Altweißbach.

As a result of World War II Altweißbach fell in 1945 as almost all of Silesia to Poland and was renamed in Stara Białka. The German population was expelled. The new inhabitants were partly displaced persons from eastern Poland. 1975-1998 belonged to the province Stara Białka Jelenia Góra.

Attractions

  • The Branch Church of St. Matthew was built in the style of the Renaissance 1606-1609 as a Protestant church in 1654 and assigned to the Catholics. The richly carved main altar contains a bas-relief Last Supper and the Resurrection and evangelists figures. The stone pulpit stands on a twisted column. There are three epitaphs from the early 17th century on the wall of the nave. The wooden baptismal font is from 1651st is located on the outside wall of a baroque Steinepitaph of 1735.
  • The church is surrounded by a defensive wall with an arched gate and loopholes. The wall was renovated in 1884.
