Content

The play tells the dream of a child of the world championship of international trains. The focus is on small, lovable, but really outdated steam engine Rusty and their fight against the really powerful opponent in the form of the modern electric locomotive Electra and the powerful diesel locomotive Greaseball. This particular love for the first - class carriage Pearl plays a special role. For when it is faced with the decision who to contest the race with Rusty or Electra, she does not know for whom to choose. At the end of Rusty wins both the race and Pearl for themselves.

The main roles

  • Rusty is an old, but very lovable steam locomotive. He wants to attend the World Cup, but will rely on the courage, as Pearl turns away from him. At the beginning he seems a little self-conscious, but learns throughout the story (with the help of Starlight Express) to believe in themselves.
  • Grease ball, the diesel locomotive, is the defending champion and one of the favorites. He makes fun of the initial optimism Rusty's funny and is very self- confident of victory ( "No one can slow me tonight !"). He plays but not always fair: In the first race he starts with an early start, in all races it obstructs the fellow unfairly.
  • Electra, the E -Lok, is the absolute favorite on the winner post. It is equipped for the first time and completely modern. In the first qualifying race Electra is supported by Pearl.
  • Pearl, the first - class carriage is at the beginning and at the end of Rusty's girlfriend ( in between she turns away from him ). At the first race she's only undecided whether to go with Electra, but then goes with him. In the second round she goes with Greaseball, but regretted it bitterly.
  • Dad, the old steam engine is in contrast to Rusty, very convinced of himself, and steam trains in general. As Rusty will not argue without Pearl the second race, he does it for him. Once he reaches the 1st place, is his - by his age already low - power at the end. He makes Rusty courage by telling him about the mysterious identity of the Starlight Express. Dad sings this at the same time the part of the Starlight Express, the unresolved question arises whether Papa Starlight Express only "plays" to give Rusty the belief in themselves, or whether there really is a Starlight Express.
  • Dinah is the dining car and the girlfriend of Greaseball. As she stands up for fair competition, she speaks Grease ball on his fraud in the first race and is then deserted by him. However, you can take comfort in Red Caboose, Ashley and Buffy, and finally there is for them a happy ending.
  • Buffy is always good -humored buffet trolley and Ashley the Smoking Lounge. Both look exactly like Pearl and Dinah, their " locomotive with Locomotion ".
  • Red Caboose is the brake wagon and therefore has much power over the outcome of a race. He comforts Dinah, who has a dispute with Greaseball, and continues with Rusty a race. However, his attachment is only feigned, he outwits Rusty and Grease ball in favor Electras. But the commitment to Electra turns out to be feint to achieve its own goals.
  • The Hip Hoppers are the van and pretty nasty to Rusty. These three roles of dance and musical performance modern hip- hop artists were revised in November 2006 and put it in costume, dar.
  • Dustin is the nice iron ore tender that helps Rusty to victory.
  • Flat Top is the slightly sloping stone wagon. He adores Grease ball, he likes to the edge of his gear on. As this is happening against Rusty, but he remains shocked in the background and worries about Rusty.
