The Home Stadium (Russian Стадион " Старт ") is a football stadium in the Russian city of Saransk. It can accommodate 11,581 spectators and serves the club Mordowia Saransk as homestead.

History

The starting Stadium in Saransk, a city with almost 300,000 inhabitants in the western Russian Republic of Mordovia, was built in 2004 and still opened in the same year. The stadium has since the opening of space for 11,581 visitors, making it the largest in Mordovia.

Since 2004 the local club Mordowia Saransk uses the stadium as the venue for home games in football. The association founded in 1961, played a long time in the lower leagues of Soviet or Russian football, but managed in the season 2011/12 by a first place in the second class first division promotion to the Premjer League, the top division in the Russian football. Since 2012, the audience of the start - stadium get consequently also seen major league football.

In addition to football games, the stadium has also starting place for other attractions. So already found here a variety of parades, but also concerts, instead.

Future Plans

In the course of taking place in Russia FIFA World Cup 2018 also Saransk was awarded the contract to be one of the venues for the World Championships. Since the launch Stadium for this is not enough and an extension was not planned from the outset, in the city a new stadium will be built. This is to provide space for a little more than 45,000 spectators, the construction has not yet begun. To what extent the new sports facility will replace the Home Stadium as the home of Mordowia Saransk and whether there is a description of the existing arena, is not yet known.
