Stary Krym

Stary Krym (Ukrainian Старий Крим; Russian Старый Крым / Stary Krym, Crimean Tatar Eski Qırım; Old Crimea ) is a city in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. It is located about 15 kilometers west of Feodosiya and 78 kilometers east of Simferopol in the interior of the island.

History

The place made ​​the incident Tatars in the 13th century the capital of the Krimkhanats, is named after the Crimean peninsula. He fell after the transfer of the capital to Bakhchisaray and was revived only after the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 1783. During this time he got the name Stary Krym, to draw attention to its importance for the peninsula.

1805 German settlers evangelical faith settled close to the then Tatar city and founded a wine village of the same name.

The Russian writer Alexander Grin spent his last years in the village and died there in 1932.

Today the place is known with a population share of 40 % Crimean Tatars especially for his heart sanatorium.
