Stary Zdrój

Stary Zdrój ( German: Backwater ) is a district of Wałbrzych ( Waldenburg ) in the Province of Lower Silesia in Poland. Stary Zdrój is located in the north of the city and was initially an independent country church, and until 1873 a spa resort. In 1919, the incorporation into the city Waldenburg who retired from the district of Waldenburg in 1924 and was elevated to city circle.

Geography

Stary Zdrój is located in Waldenburg mountains along Route 35 ( Droga Krajowa 35), which runs from Wałbrzych about Świdnica to Wroclaw. Neighboring towns are Szczawienko and Świebodzice in the north, Lubiechów ( Liebichau ) in the Northeast, Pogorzała ( Seifersdorf ) in the east, in the southeast Dziećmorowice, Sobięcin the southwest, Konradów in the southwest and Szczawno- Zdrój and Struga in the northwest. To the northeast stands the 590 m high bird Koppe ( Ptasia Kopa ).

History

Backwater was first mentioned in 1357 as Aqua Antiqua. It belonged to the Duchy Kammergut Schweidnitz with which it came in 1392 to Bohemia. Subsequently, it was awarded by the Czech king in Bohemian and Silesian nobles as a fief from 1412 and an inheritance. Since 1366 the silver mining is known. 1584 Emperor Rudolf II granted the Bernhard Kuhl on Kammerau the privilege for the coal industry of the blessing of God pit. Attractions

  • The Kurhaus "Lion House " (Dom Zdrojowy ) was built under Bernhard von Mutius in 1800 and renovated after fire damage after 1996. Upstairs is a representative hall with rounded narrow sides and corner niches and mirrored ceiling with stucco frame decor.
