State Great Khural

The Great State Khural (Mongolian Улсын Их Хурал, Ulsyn I Khural, State Great Assembly) is the parliament of Mongolia. It is unicameral. According to Mongolian tradition, the parliaments of the Russian Republics of Buryatia and Kalmykia "People's Khural " call.

Suffrage

The Parliament has 76 MPs. 48 seats are allocated by direct elections in the 48 constituencies, the remaining 28 seats by proportional representation to parties that receive at least 5 % of votes. One option is valid only if 50% of the registered voters of the constituency have voted. The right to vote have Mongolian citizen over 18 years residing in Mongolia. Chairman

The Chairman of the Parliament is elected by the members by a two -thirds majority of its members. Tasks

Together with the government operates the Great State Khural - made ​​laws and decide their introduction. The parties represented in the parliament nominate the candidates for the direct election of the president. Parliament confirmed the Prime Minister and the other Ministers. Election results

The last elections 28 June 2012 brought a victory for the Democratic Party (DP ) over the previously dominant Mongolian People's Party ( MVP).
