Statue of Iddi-Ilum

The statuette of iddin - ilum is a 41.5 cm high statuette of steatite. It was manufactured in the early 21st century BC and was found in French excavations under the direction of André Parrot in Mari ( Tell Hariri ) in winter 1936/37, in the palace. Today she is in the Louvre exhibited in Paris ( Inventarnr.: AO 19486 ).

It is a prayer statuette, which is apart from a broken arm and the head largely preserved. It shows a man standing in a long robe. In the lower region of an Akkadian inscription is carved. Accordingly, this statuette of love and war goddess Inanna / Ishtar was ordained. As its founder is named iddin - ilum, a šakkanakku ( governor ) of Mari.
