Stedesdorf is a municipality in East Frisia in the integrated municipality in the district of Esen Witt mouth in Lower Saxony.

Geography

Geographical Location

Stedesdorf is a Geestrand houses, situated on the road between Esen ( about 4 km north- west of Stedesdorf ) and Witt mouth ( about 9 km south-east ).

Community structure

The municipality still belong next to the village Stedesdorf the districts Mamburg, Osteraccum and Thunum.

History

The first mention of the village Stedesdorf is found in a deed of gift of the Archbishop of Bremen Adalbero. In this document, which was drafted in 1137, the newly founded Premonstratensian Stade the amount of four marks from our Kuria Stedesdorpe is ( quatuor marce the curia nostra Stedesdorpe ) appropriated. Whether it is Stedesdorf at Stedesdorpe, however, is controversial. Also Steddorp in the district of Rotenburg ( Wümme) could refer to in this document.

In the village Thunum there was probably in former times a castle. The castle in Thunum is detected by the year 1344. Mamburg was mentioned in documents in 1473. The recent Osteraccum village was first mentioned in 1497.

Church History

The Domscholaster of Bremen, Adam, already reported in 1050 by churches in the coastal area. Also for Stedesdorf an early church timber is detected at this time. Already in the first half of the 12th century but a tuff church was built, which is the oldest church in the old Harlingerland. In the end Stedesdorf court and the right end met was pronounced in place. As a final church, the place had the function of a regional matrix Ecclesia ( Mother Church ) and exercised the ecclesiastical influence of the neighboring villages. Esen, Thunum, Burhafe, dunams, Werdum, Fulkum, Buttforde, Westerbur and other places were ecclesiastically Stedesdorf assumed. Thus Stedesdorf was the biggest Send Church District ( 1420 ) in the northern diocese of Bremen.

Religion

The vast majority of the inhabitants Stedesdorfs belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation Stedesdorf - Thunum. The Roman Catholic and Evangelical Free Church Christians are looked after by their churches in Esen from pastorally.

Parish council

The Council of the Municipality Council Stedesdorf consists of 11 women and councilors. This is the set number for the member community of integrated municipality with a population of 1001-2000 people. The 11 Women Council and councilors are elected by a municipal election for five years. The current term of office began on 1 November 2011.

The council chose the council member Helmut Oelrichs ( Wählergemeinschaft " For the community Stedesdorf " ) as honorary mayor for the current parliamentary term.

The turnout in the local elections of 2011 was 65.58 %, well above the Lower Saxony average of 52.5 %. For comparison - in the previous local elections on 10 September 2006, the turnout was 67.03 %.

Coat of arms

Blazon: Azure, a red gezungter golden lion holding four golden ears of corn in his paws. The lion is the emblem of the chief Wibet of Stedesdorf removed. The ears stand for the four districts Mamburg, Osteraccum, Thunum and Stedesdorf.

Culture and sights

Structures

The St. Aegidien Church in Stedesdorf was built as a send church of the former Archdiocese of Bremen 1100-1150. Its plan type is unique in Ostfriesland. The squat nave is terminated by a retracted and almost square choir area. The stone- brick bell tower of the closed type is free and comes from 1695th is located on the north side of the freestanding Glock tower of stone grooves of Stedesdorf.
