Stefan Brasas (2008)

Stefan Brasas ( born August 31, 1967 in Münster ) is a former German football goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach.

Career as a player

Brasas started his career at Preußen Münster and VfL Bochum, before joining the amateur team of Werder Bremen in 1987. After a change in the next year to FC Mahndorf he started in 1989 in the jersey of Stuttgarter Kickers, with which he became in the 1990/1991 season in the Bundesliga. Here he was, however, already after eight matchdays replaced by Claus riding Maier due to injury. For the 1992/93 season, he joined the newly promoted Premiership Saarbrücken. But after just one season he went back to Stuttgart. Finally, in 1995 he joined the SV Meppen in the second league. In his first season he saw four yellow cards and one red card. Noteworthy is his only field goal, which he scored in the 1995/96 season, when he met shortly before the final whistle to 2-2 for the Emsland in the game with FC Carl Zeiss Jena. In the 2000 /01 season he was voted the best goalkeeper of the DFB Cup Hall, in which he reached the final with Werder Bremen. His only title in Germany he won in 1999 as a goalkeeper with Werder Bremen when he won the DFB Cup and previously sat in the semi-final against his former club Stuttgart Kickers after extra time and was still celebrated by the terraces football fans. In 2002 he moved to Cyprus, where he became champion with Omonia Nicosia. The last two years of his career he spent in the SpVgg Unterhaching. In 2005, he ended his career after 211 second division and 41 Bundesliga games.

Brasas was with a height of 2.02 m one of the greatest goalkeepers in the Bundesliga history.

Career as a coach

After a long commitment to the Nigerian Football Federation Brasas worked as a goalkeeper coach at Wuppertal SV Borussia on 15 February 2008 to 9 July 2008. From July 2008 to December 2009 he worked as a goalkeeper coach under head coach Winfried Schaefer for Al Ain Club in the United Arab Emirates. From 1 August 2011, he is goalkeeper coach of the national team of Thailand.
