Stefan Schmid

Stefan Schmid ( born May 6, 1970 in Würzburg ) is a former German track and field athlete. He played 31 ten fights, of which he finished 28. 1997 and 2001, he finished in seventh place at the World Championships, respectively.

Life

Schmid denied in 1990 his first decathlon and immediately reached 7507 points. By the end of the year he rose to 7532 points. In 1991 he was in Munich with 7819 points, third in the first German decathlon championship after reunification. In the Universiade in Sheffield Schmid finished with 7626 points in fourth place. At the end of the season Schmid increased its best performance at 7866 points. End of May 1992 exceeded the Schmid -around meeting in Götzis with 8012 points for the first time the 8000 -point mark, but remains at against the world class only to eleventh place. The end of August he won in Ahlen with 7992 points, the German championship. 1993 Schmid was fourth at the German Championships in Vaterstetten. At the Athletics European Cup the all-rounder in Oulu in 1993 won the French, Schmid finished with Paul Meier and Michael Kohnle second place, with Schmid in sixth place in the individual standings with 7982 points. When countries against the U.S. end of the season Schmid improved his personal best in Aachen on 8061 points. 1994 Schmid improved his best performance in Götzis to 8201 points, and thus finished third. Schmid Thus qualified for the European Championships in Helsinki in 1994, where he finished fifth with 8109 points. End of the season 1994, Schmid increased sixth of the meeting in Talence on 8309 points.

In the 1995 season, Schmid joined to at no decathlon, 1996, he was at the Olympic qualification in Bernhausen on after the 100 -meter run. On August 31 and September 1, 1996 Schmid received his first decathlon after almost two years. At the German Championships in Vaterstetten he won the title and increased his personal best to 8478 points, he scored two Karrierebestleitungen with 2.06 meters in the high jump and 13.93 seconds in the 110- meter hurdles. The complete competition, however, was deleted from the list of results after traces of the painkiller dextropropoxyphene were found in Schmid's doping test. On 1 June 1997, the IAAF decided to withdrawing power and a retrospective three-month doping ban. The German championship in 1996 was subsequently Michael Kohnle.

Between the competition in Vaterstetten and the decision of the IAAF Schmid had only participated in a competition hall. While the IAAF convened, Schmid qualified in Ratingen with 8279 points for the 1997 World Championships in Athens. There Schmid reached 8360 points that finished seventh. The following year, Schmid broke the qualifying competition in Ratingen, but was allowed to go to the European Championships 1998 in Budapest anyway. He scored 8011 points and rank 14th 1999, Schmid participate only in the German Championships in a position where he finished second behind Mike Maczey with 7981 points. 2000 Schmid took part in the meeting in Götzis and finished with 8445 points in eighth place. The winner of the Olympic qualification in Ratingen, he increased his best performance at 8485 points. In Sydney he reached 8206 points, and thus was Olympia ninth. 2001 Schmid won in Ratingen qualifying for the World Championships in Edmonton. There, he finished with 8307 points in seventh place. His last international decathlon denied Schmid, 2002 in Bydgoszcz. Together with Mike Maczey and Florian Schoenbeck, he won the European Cup and finished second in the individual standings with 7825 points in third place.

Schmid went on during his entire career for the LG Karlstadt. At a height of 1.87 m his competition weight was 85 kg. Schmid has been operating for many years a gym in Carlstadt.
