Stefan Štiljanović

Stefan Štiljanović ( Serbian Cyrillic Стефан Штиљановић ) was the last leader of the Pastrovic clan from the region Bay of Kotor in today's Montenegro, the end of the 15th century moved to the region of Syrmia in the former Kingdom of Hungary and later the Serbian despots in the former Kingdom of Hungary rose in the regions of present-day western Vojvodina and Eastern Slavonia in Croatia today. He is also a saint of the Serbian Orthodox Church, whose bones are buried in the Saborna Crkva in Belgrade. His year of birth is unknown, as death year 1543 is assumed.

In his new home he proved to be an excellent voivode. He successfully led several battles against the invading Ottomans, also came in captivity, however, was because he was very wealthy and respected, released on ransom. Around the year 1520 he founded the monastery Kuvezdin in the Fruska Gora which now houses the book Panagirik is kept from 1545 that references the oldest testimony of Scripture on his status as a saint.

In the region around the monastery Šišatovac in the Fruska Gora was during his lifetime a veritable cult of his person and his military successes. After his violent death probably the historically unverifiable tradition established by his widow Jelena Štiljanović with the inherited wealth, the monastery Petkovica in the Fruska Gora. She then joined the legend, as a sister Jelisaveta in the monastery and was as previously canonized her husband, after her death from the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Day of St.. Stefan Štiljanović and the venerable Jelisaveta is celebrated on 17 October according to the Gregorian and October 4, according to the Julian calendar.

The hl. Stefan Štiljanović was ordained among other things, a chapel in Osijek from the 19th century, which was destroyed in the Croatian Serb civil war in Croatia 1991-1993 by Croatian forces.
