Stefano Maderno

Stefano Maderno ( * 1575 in Palestrina, † September 17, 1636 in Rome ) was an Italian sculptor.

Maderno is the creator of numerous sculptures, partly after antique models. His works mark the transition from Renaissance to Baroque.

His major work from 1600 is the sculpture of St. Cecilia, whom he is said to have created true to the body, as he was seen in the coffin opening 1599 of white marble. It should be read in the church dedicated to her Santa Cecilia in Trastevere.
