Steiger Tractor

Steiger was an American tractor manufacturer that is part of CNH Global today.

History

Steiger was in the 1950s, founded by brothers Douglas and Maurice Steiger, two farmers in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, which needed a reliable, powerful four-wheel tractor. The riser built in their workshop first a tractor for their own use, then another and sold it in 1958 to a neighbor.

Demand grew, and soon the brothers started the tractor on a site near Thief River Falls in larger quantities to produce. From the beginning, Steiger painted their tractors in almost the neon light green, in contrast to the muted yellow, green, blue, red and orange hues that were used by most other manufacturers. The tractor division of Steiger farms moved in 1969 to Fargo, North Dakota, has to offer.

Under CEO Eugene Dahl ( former Vice President for shopping at the Melroe Company) she was one of the world's most successful manufacturer of all-wheel tractors mass. In the 1970s, International Harvester acquired a 30 percent stake in the company. This share was sold in 1982 Deutz-Fahr.

Tenneco, the parent company of Case IH Steiger acquired in 1986, and the lime green of the Steiger family was replaced by Case IHs red. The name Steiger disappeared for a while, but was reintroduced as the name of the flagship line of four-wheel tractors in Case IHs range, but they are sold since the merger of Case IH New Holland CNH Global also known as New Holland. The current (2009) models are referred to as Case STX Steiger sold with capacities of 150 to 370 kW, most are also available as Quadtrac ( tape drive) available.

Steiger also built tractors for various other tractor manufacturers and dealers, for example, International Harvester, Ford and Allis-Chalmers. Steiger licensed its tractors to RÁBA (Hungary ), who built RÁBA and RÁBA Steiger tractors, and Vandel (France), who built the tractors under their own name.

The former Steiger President Jack Johnson later founded Titan Tractors in Fargo, to rebuild old climber and retrofit. American Tractors ( Amtrac ), in England, builds and equips current old climber after.
