The Steinbach is a creek in northeastern Baden- Württemberg of 4.7 km in length, the left- opens in Vellberg - Eschenau in the Buhler.

Geography

Headwaters

The Steinbach produced about 1.2 km north- northeast of Obersontheim - Herlebach on the Sulzdorfer district of Schwäbisch Hall at the K 2627 Herlebach - Sulzdorf. The source is located at about 438 m above sea level. NN in the forest area Höning that the eastern slope of the small ridge Birkentöbele runs long. From there it flows in a Mulde in the forest between the foothills Burkhart in the north and the first ascent to something lying further south plateau mountain toward the east-northeast and is soon joined herein by a forest path. After about 0.6 km, it takes from the right on a side path junction on its first inflow, resulting in a similar situation, only about 0.1 kilometers south of him at the K 2627 and recorded on his slightly longer way from the right, some only temporarily water-bearing streams blades has.

Course

After about 0.9 km of Steinbach reached at the tree line the golf course Dörrenzimmern, in which he was accompanied by an incomplete row of trees and with small rashes meanders in a widening, hardly Valley to be named grassy hollow by the Hättelenswiesen. He fed after about 1.3 km on a 0.3 -acre artificial pond experiencing some supply also from the flat right slope. After about 2.3 km run - now it runs already at the other edge of the golf course - he turns off the L 1060 ( " Buhler valley road " ) Sulzdorf - Bühlertann by south-southeast and then takes about 0.2 km further an approximately 0.7 km long tributary on right from the Hart, who has previously fed on the golf course an approximately 0.2 -acre pond.

Now he is running at the right edge in a slow eintiefenden trough between the more distant L 1060 left and a right accompanying dirt road through the pelvic meadows, especially right where the stream slope is steep, accompanied by wood. In this section, he was apparently one least straightened, at its end, he was again placed later in a drawn with a compass curve. At this point, it flows from the right to the dirt road running along a 0.4 km long Ofenbach, which at times reaches a length of nearly 1.0 km, if it occurs earlier on the verge of the forest Gewanns Sandrain.

Immediately thereafter, and now 3.2 kilometers below its source the stream passes under the L 1060, happened south Vellberger a new area on its left slope and is traversed by a paved road. After about 4.0 km leads from the right of the 0.6 km long Rohrbach, who also accompanied runs as a ditch next to a dirt road. Around here the Steinbach begins to dig a slope between the upper edges of nowhere only 100 meters wide Taltrog.

Soon a trail leads straight to the dump on an old concrete bridge. Here you can not see from the wooded hillside dump already the upper slopes, the river is now up to its name and flows over limestone benches, small rock walls then pass on its shores and the trough filled with forest. From the bridge continue on a trail and performs a few steps next to Steinbach to the valley, the more and more to the gorge, that is pigeon hole in the bottom.

Behind the right slope is here, not visible from the unspoilt valley, in a large pit, whose sole lies deep under the bed of Steinbach, broken limestone in Ummenhofener quarry. After a total of 4.7 km of Steinbach leads to 348.6 m above sea level. NN a few steps next to another old concrete bridge over which the trail continues through the Aue to Vellberg - Eschenau from the left in the Buhler.

Catchment area

The Steinbach has a catchment area of 3.9 km ². At the upper reaches it is bordered on the north by that of Schwäbisch Hall- dried Zimmerner shepherds Bach, from the bend after the golf course just at the Little Bear creek, which runs between Schwäbisch Hall book and Vellberg, both pulling to near Buhler. To the east and southeast this competes itself, in the south of Obersontheim - Ummenhofener Rossbach, who reached the Buhler on the Obersontheim sub- Sontheimer Riedbachstraße. In the southwest and west of the watershed runs along the ridge of the mountain and Birkentöbele to Fischach that pulls beyond the upper Buhler.

Directly on the shore of Steinbach there is nowhere colonization, but newer settlement Vellbergs parts are in the catchment, left, after the crossing of the L 1060 on the upper slope.

The greater part of the catchment area around the middle and lower reaches is in the field of Vellberg, the somewhat smaller at the upper reaches in the field of Schwäbisch Hall. To Obersontheim the south and west are only small gusset where the municipal boundary inwards slightly from the watershed differs, as well as an approximately ¼ km ² large area on the right lower running north-west and north of Ummenhofen, from which in turn a good portion in the area of the quarry and its feed trough artificially drained through its Sohlwasserpumpen.

Geology

The headwaters of the Steinbach is surrounded to the west and south of the reed sandstone plateaus of the mountain and Birkentöbele, the creek itself springs from below already in the Upper Keuper gypsum. Burkhart in the north and the first step in the terrain to the mountain in the south are formed by Verebnungsflächen the Corbula Bank of Gipskeuper. The stream reaches with his change of direction at the L 1060 Lower Keuper and about the influx of Rohrbachs the Upper Muschelkalk, in which he also opens.

Uphill in continuation of the stream from the hard lies on the western edge of the forest to meadow hall Gewanns Hohenrot in a depression a Dolinenzone, the above ground has no outlet and is covered in her hallway part of a constantly damp meadow.

The Ummenhofer quarry right of the lower reaches close to the Upper Muschelkalk and the Lower Keuper.

Origin of Steinbach's about 1.2 km north- northeast of Obersontheim - Herlebach to about 438 m above sea level. NN in the forest area Höning at the K 2627 Herlebach - Sulzdorf.

  • On the other Quellast, joins from the right in the forest, 0.6 km long. Has right blade inflows from a forest meadow below the mountain.
  • Fed on the golf course Dörrenzimmern a 0.3 acre pond which also has inlet from the slope.
  • Inflow from the hard, right on the L 1060 in the Seewiesen, 0,7 km.   Fed on the golf course Dörrenzimmern a 0.2 acre pond.

Mouth of Steinbach after 4.7 km run in the pigeon hole about 0.7 km south-west of Vellberg - Eschenau to 348.6 m above sea level. NN from the left in the Buhler.

Nature, landscape and protected areas

By the time he reached the golf course, the Steinbach and his right Quellast flow through a closed forest area, which at a first height level below the hill about 0.7 km follows a right nowhere 0.2 km wide clearing. Almost to run kink before the L 1060 wide hollow is then covered by grassland, then lie on the hills either side of the now narrow, green valley fields, except the Vellberger settlement left on the hill at the bottom of the middle reaches and a shorter piece right between Rohrbach inlet and the quarry where there are smaller plots with open garden land. In the narrow gorge of the pigeon hole blades forest stands, off the rocky parts grows on the black bottom of the arum. The right accompanying quarry pit is almost 0.8 km long in the direction of flow of the stream, its base is greater still in further degradation.

The greater part of the upper Steinbach run up to the corridor boundary, the entire right Quellast included, stands as a near-natural floodplain forest under habitat protection, likewise followed by a right to the shores of ongoing forest and rear header just before the golf course pond and 0.2 acres of sinkholes depression. A much larger area of this is natural monument, as well as the newly named woody bolt and the Kraftsee, a wetland on a low hill on the right of the middle barrel on the northern edge of the Hohenrots. Natural Monument is also a grove passing the defile at furnace creek in the hallway Won Straßenäcker and mentioned in connection with the Rohrbach box hedge. The pigeon hole is under biotope, such as nature (nature reserve Lower Bühlertal ).
