Steinerne Rose

Stone Rose is the colloquial name for a natural monument in Thuringia. It consists of a Pikrit which has arisen in the Middle Devonian, before about 390 million years ago as undersea out -carrying lava flow. The escaping from the seafloor lava formed cushion-like body, the result of the sedimentation of clay slurry before, during, and are now enclosed by the end of the volcanism of slate. The Lavakissen possess an internal structure of concentric shells, which is dissected by the natural weathering ( desquamation ), which they were given the shape of a blossoming rose bud.

The Stone Rose is located about 700 m north of the monastery, a district of the city hall castle -Ebersdorf in Saale- Orla-Kreis, in Thuringia, on the Reuss Fürstenstraße (L 1095 ) just to the right before the bridge over the old railway Schleiz - room castle.

Furthermore, " bloom " several smaller stone roses at the castle rock in Ronneburg ( Thuringia).

The Stone Rose eV in a survey of Heinz Sielmann Foundation EUROPARC Germany elected to Germany zweitschönstem natural wonders of the Year 2013. The choice was between 21 natural monuments from the National Natural Landscapes and other regions of Germany. Took first place in the Rough Kulm at Neustadt am Kulm. On the third rank of boots followed at St. Ingbert.
