Sten Carl Bielke

Sten Carl Bielke ( born March 14, 1709 Stockholm, † July 13, 1753 ) was a Swedish baron and co-founder of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences of the noble family Bielke.

Since his father died early, he was taken by a relative and taught in different European languages. After a trip abroad Bielke studied law. After completion of training he took over in 1746 the post of Vice President at the royal court of Turku.

In addition to his professional career, he was concerned with botanical studies. He also supported other biologists financially and was a close friend of Carl Linnaeus and Pehr Kalm. This interest could be Bielke 1739 to one of the six founders of the Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Bielke had a number of farm estates, their accurate management he put great value. On his estate Löfstad he planted a botanical garden, which exceeded all previous private gardens in Sweden in species richness.
