Sten Rudholm

Sten Rudholm (* April 27, 1918 in Karlstad, Värmland, † 29 November 2008) was a Swedish Chancellor of Justice and Reich Marshal. He was a member of the Swedish Academy, Honorary Doctor of Law, Stockholm University, and the last "civilian" Swede, which the Royal Seraphinenorden was awarded.

Judge career

Rudholm 1942 jur. kand. ( Diplom- Jurist ) of Stockholm University. In 1954 he was assessor at Hovrätt, the second highest Swedish court instance before he was appointed Hovrättsrat and 1967 President of the Svea Hovrätts 1961. He held until 1983 this post.

Bureaucratic career

From 1955-1961 Rudholm was head of the law department at the Ministry of Justice and 1959-1963 expert in the discussions on a new constitution. From 1962 to 1967 Rudholm finally was Chancellor of Justice.

Other work

Rudholm was 1974-1983 Chairman of the Swedish General Arts Association. On 10 February 1977 he was elected to the Swedish Academy and took there on 20 December of the same year on chair # 1 place on the previously Sture Petrén sat. 1983 Rudholm was finally appointed Reich Marshal and held this office until 1986.
