The Little Longhorn ( Stenurella melanura, formerly Strangalia m. ), Also called Common Longhorn and Schwarzschwänziger Longhorn, is a species in the family of longhorn beetles ( Cerambycidae ).
Features
The Little Longhorn is a long between six and nine millimeters beetle with a black ground color. The elytra of the females are red on the outside and have a wide black elytra seam and a black tip. The elytra of the leaner males are brown and have a darker top with a slightly less pronounced black drawing.
Occurrence
This beetle is found in Europe, Siberia, Northern Mongolia and the Caucasus on sunny forest edges, in coniferous mixed forest, spruce - pine forests and alpine pastures and mountain meadows and can be found up to mid-mountain heights.
Way of life
The adults can be found from May to September on various flowers, and in particular cones, and feed on pollen. The larvae prefer the rotten wood of deciduous and coniferous trees, notably thin -lying branches, in which they develop within two years to the imago.
