Stepan Davydov

Stepan Ivanovich Davydov (Russian Степан Иванович Давыдов, scientific transliteration Stepan Ivanovich Davydov; * 1 Januarjul / January 12 1777greg in Chernigov, .. .. † 9 Maijul / May 21 1825greg in Moscow) was a Russian composer.

Davydov was formed on the recommendation of the Empress Catherine II of Giuseppe Sarti. He was 1806-1810 conductor at the Imperial Theatre in Saint Petersburg. After that he worked as a singing teacher at the theater school in Moscow. Besides sacred music he composed ten ballets and an overture, eleven divertissements, and several operas, including jointly with Ferdinand Kauer and Catterino Cavos The mermaid.
