Steph Houghton

Stephanie Jayne " Steph " Houghton ( born April 23, 1988 in Durham ) is an English footballer. She plays for Arsenal Ladies in the FA Women's Premier League and was in the squad the England team for the 2011 World Cup and the squad of Team GB, its leading scorer she is. In the Club and in the senior team, the defender played at times in midfield, with the U-20 World Cup Women 2008, she played in defense. Also for the Olympic Games, she was nominated as a defensive player.

Career

Houghton began her football career with 5 years in the Sunderland AFC Women, in the season 2006/ 07 they won the FA Young Player of the Year Award. She then moved to Leeds, with whom she won the Premier League Cup 2010, since 2010 it plays for Arsenal Ladies, which was the 2011 FA Cup won.

Houghton played for the English U-16 school team and the U-19, U -20, U -21 and U-23 teams and took part in the U-20 World Cup of Women in Chile in 2008, at of England with 0:3 lost to eventual champions USA in the quarterfinals. In 2006 she was nominated for the 1:5 lost against Germany game the senior team, but not used. It was only on March 8, 2007, she came in a 6-0 against Russia for their first race for the A-Team. Due to a broken leg she could not attend the 2007 World Cup and was also for the European Championship in 2009. The 2011 World Cup was thus her first major tournament for senior national teams. In the quarter- final against France, they came on in the 81st minute and thus came to their first World Cup use, but retired by the penalty shoot out.

In the first game of Team GB at the Olympic Games 2012, she scored the only goal against New Zealand. In the second game against Cameroon, they scored the goal for 3-0, so it was best scorer of Team GB with two goals. Even against Brazil, they scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory. In the quarter- final against Canada, they also came to use, but had with their team suffered their first defeat and retired.
