Stéphane Matteau

Stephane Matteau ( born September 2, 1969 in Rouyn -Noranda, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. During his career he played for the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League.

Career

Matteau first played for four years from 1985 to 1989 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Hull Olympiques with whom he Coupe du Président, was the champion of the QMJHL win twice. This he took twice a Memorial Cup tournament.

After him, the Calgary Flames had selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1987 in the second round to 25th place him in that line already in the 1988/89 season in the International Hockey League. So also in the following year. For the season 1990 /91 Franco-Canadian was then an integral part of the Calgary Flames, which occupied him until December 1991. During a toe injury that made him deny only 24 games in the season 1991/92, transferred him the Flames for Trent Yawney to the Chicago Blackhawks, where Matteau played until March 1994. The Blackhawks sent him together with Brian Noonan for Tony Amonte to the New York Rangers with whom he was able to win the Stanley Cup. Matteau had major part in this, after he was able to achieve in the Eastern Conference Finals against the New Jersey Devils scored twice in overtime. The left winger was not until the 1995/96 season in at Rangers before he was discharged for Ian Laperrière to the St. Louis Blues. There he played until the end of the game 1996 / 97th In the summer of 1997 Matteau changed for Darren Turcotte to the San Jose Sharks, where he remained for five seasons long and the young team supported by his experience. Matteau denied in his career total of 13 seasons in the NHL. With the exception of his last season with the Florida Panthers, he managed every year with the respective team to qualify for the playoffs.
