Stephansplatz (Hamburg U-Bahn station)

The underground station Stephansplatz is a tunnel station of Hamburg U -Bahn in the Neustadt district. It was opened in 1929 as part of the KellJung - line and is today operated by the U1 line. The abbreviation in the Hamburg elevated railway is SN.

Construction and location

The central platform of the subway station is two-fold depth of approximately northwest-southeast direction at the eponymous place in Hamburg's Neustadt. Outputs are from both ends of the platform first in lobbies simple low position. The northern exit is located at the edge of the Hamburg ramparts (now belonging to planet un Blomen ), also can be reached from here with about 200 meters walk of Dammtorbahnhof. History

The underground station Stephansplatz was opened on 2 June 1929 as part of the so-called KellJung line between Kellinghusenstraße and Jungfernstieg. Since the Jungfernstieg could only be put into operation in 1931, completed the first year the trains on Stephansplatz. Each platform of KellJung line received a certain characteristic color in which many elements of the station were designed during construction. Am Stephansplatz this was the color blue.

The initial state was obtained largely over four decades. It was only in 1972, the plant was rebuilt on a large scale, while the color scheme of the station was changed among others.
