Stephen Clarke (writer)

Stephen Clarke (born 1958 ) is a British author.

Prior to his work as a writer Clarke worked as a gag writer for BBC Radio 4 and as a copywriter for the comic artist Gilbert Shelton. In the early 1990s he moved to Paris.

In 2004 he published the novel A Year in the Merde, which appeared in Germany under the title An Englishman in Paris. The book, which takes the characteristics of the French with British charm on the grain, proved a great success and was translated into 17 languages ​​to date. Clarke had the manuscript originally printed 200 times for friends and acquaintances until an interested publishing staff fell into the hands. Clarke is related to the themes of his books in the succession of similar successful Daninos Pierre, the author of Major Thompson discovered the French.

In 2005, the bestselling Merde Actually followed (Eng.
