Stephen Frears

Stephen Frears (born 20 June 1941 in Leicester, England ) is a British film director and producer.

Life

Stephen Frears is the son of a Jewish social worker and a medical practitioner. He attended Gresham 's School in Norfolk and graduated from Trinity College, University of Cambridge. He came in the 1960s about the theater to film, first as assistant director Karel Reisz of. In the 1970s he worked for television. Only to be published in 1985 film My Beautiful Laundrette earned him the breakthrough. Since then, he is considered one of the leading directors of the " New British Cinema".

In May 2007, Frears was chairman of the jury at the 60th International Film Festival in Cannes.
