Stephen Hughes (politician)

Stephen Hughes ( born August 19, 1952 in Sunderland ) is a British (English ) politician ( Labour Party ).

Life

Hughes completed his studies with a diploma in local government in 1975 and then worked in the municipality. As a member of the Labour Party, he was in addition to various party activities and functions of trade union from 1979 to 1984 Assistant to the European parliament member Roland Boyes and PES delegate to the Socialist International. Hughes sits in the European Parliament since 1984. Here he was from 1994 to 1997 Chairman of the Committee on Social Affairs and Employment, and then two years Chairman of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. In the European elections in 2009 he won in his constituency, North East England, the best result for a candidate of the Labour Party nationally.

Hughes is Deputy Chairman of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats in the European Parliament and of the following committees and delegations as a member or alternate active:

As a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China. As a representative of the Committee on Culture and Education and the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN).
