Stephen Morehouse Avery

Stephen Morehouse Avery ( born December 20, 1893 in Webster Groves, Missouri, USA, † February 10 in Los Angeles, California, USA, 1948 ) was an American screenwriter.

Biography

Stephen Morehouse Avery grew up as the second of three sons of the married couple Charles and Jessie Avery in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis. After graduation he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and then worked after Detroit, Michigan, before he betätitgite himself as a writer.

Avery was a successful writer of short stories that have been printed in many well known magazines and newspapers in the country. 1933 he moved to Hollywood, where he also had success as a screenwriter.

His greatest successes came with his colleague Don Hartman. In 1936 she was nominated for the Academy Award for best original story for the film The Gay Deception. For Every girl should marry ( Every Girl Should Be Married ) they got a nomination for the Writers Guild of America for the WGA Award.

During World War II Avery served in the U.S. Army as an officer of the intelligence service. For wounds he suffered while he was stationed in North Africa, he was awarded the Purple Heart.

On February 10, 1948 Stephen Morehouse Avery died in his apartment in Los Angeles to a heart attack.
