Stephen the Hymnographer

Stephanos Melodos (medium Greek Στέφανος ο Μελοδος; * 725 in Damascus, † 802 in the Sabas Monastery, Palestine ) was a Byzantine Melode.

Stephanos Melodos, nephew of John of Damascus, lived since the age of ten in the Palestinian Sabas Monastery. He wrote many hymns in the Greek language medium, including the description of the martyrdom of 20 in the year 797 of the Arabs in the monastery monks killed.
