Steve Chen

Steve Chen (Chinese陈士骏; born August 18, 1978 in Taipei) is a Taiwanese co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of the website YouTube.

Life and career

Until he was 8 years old, he grew up in Taiwan, until his family immigrated to the United States. There he attended John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights (Illinois ) and finally the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in the U.S. state of Illinois. After graduating, he began studying at the University of Illinois.

Chen was a former employee of the U.S. company PayPal, where he met Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim, and with them built the online payment system PayPal. The three founded the YouTube website in 2005. Karim left YouTube during the growth phase, but is next to Chen and Hurley one of the largest shareholders in the company have been.

In August 2013 announced Steve Chen and Chad Hurley Youtube co-founder to start another joint project: Video App Mixbit. Chen and Hurley want by their own account with their new mobile app Mixbit shake up the mobile market and make applications like Instagram Vine or competition.

Awards

2007, the YouTube founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences at the 11th ceremony of the Webby Awards have been awarded as " Persons of the Year " with a price.
