Steven Burke
Steven Burke ( born March 4, 1988 in Burnley) is an English track cyclist.
Sports career
Steven Burke in 2003 and 2004, four times British track cycling champion in the junior class in Scratch, the individual pursuit and points race. He was European champion in the junior team pursuit in 2005. At the World Championships in Vienna, he won the silver medal in the same discipline. The following year he defended his European title, and at the World Championships he won bronze this time. In 2007 he was in the U23 class European champion in the team pursuit and in the individual pursuit, he won bronze. In the national championship, he was British champion of the elite class in Scratch.
In the 2008/2009 season, Burke won the World Cup race in Manchester and Copenhagen in the team pursuit; in the following season, the British team was able to repeat their victory in Manchester. At the Olympic Games in Beijing, Burke won the bronze medal in the individual pursuit. In the U23 European Championships he successfully defended his title in the team pursuit. In addition, he was British Champion in 2008 in the individual pursuit.
2013 was Steven Burke in Minsk Vice World Champion in the Team Pursuit, together with Ed Clancy, Sam Harrison and Andrew Tennant.
Honors
Burke was honored with induction into the Hall of Fame of the European Cycling Union Union Européenne de Cyclisme.
