Stewartia pseudocamellia

The apparent camellia ( Stewartia ) are a genus of the family of Teestrauchgewächse ( Theaceae ). The genus is after John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, the named.

Description

Note Camellias are evergreen or deciduous trees or shrubs. The opposite leaves are permanent membranous or leathery. The leaf edge is usually perforated. The short flower stalks are winged. Stipules absent.

The stalked flowers are individually together in the leaf axils or in a few short racemose inflorescences. There are two lasting bracts. The hermaphrodite flowers are fünfzählig. The five identically shaped sepals are fused at their base. The five white or yellowish - white petals are fused weak at their base. The numerous stamens, the stamens are fused in their lower half with each other and with the petals. The Upper constant ovary is fünffächrig, with one to seven ovules per carpel. The stylus is unbranched or branched.

The fünfrippige, fünffächerige, ovoid to cylindrical capsule fruit is usually enclosed by the obtained permanent calyx. The ovoid or flattened, small seeds are winged or not. The cotyledons are thin and flat. The fleshy endosperm is usually razor thin.

Dissemination

The genus is found in Asia and America. Center of biodiversity is China with about 20 species. In addition, three types are common in Japan and Korea and two species in the southeastern United States.
