Østfold Line

The Østfoldbane (German Østfoldbahn ), originally called Smaalensbanen, is a railway line in Norway, which the Oslo fjord to Kornsjø i Halden leads east of Oslo from the south to the border with Sweden. The route continues in Sweden towards Trollhättan and Gothenburg as Dalslandbana or Norgebanan.

Description

The route takes two tracks from Oslo S to ski. There they divided into an eastern and western route. The western route is double track continues to Moss and from there continue on single track Fredrikstad Sarpsborg. The eastern route that leads Indre Østfoldbanen (Eng. inner Østfoldbahn ) single track of ski Askim and Mysen Sarpsborg. From Sarpsborg the single-track trail leads through heaps to the border crossing in Kornsjø.

History

On June 6, 1873, the Norwegian Parliament decided to build the Smaalensbanen. The building, for which up to 3,000 men were employed at the same time, started in 1875. During a visit by King Oscar II and Queen Sophia took place in August 1878 for a test drive on the route between Råde and Hølen instead. The western route was officially opened on January 2, 1879, the eastern 1882.

In the 1990s, the western route was significantly enhanced by the distance between the ski and Sandbukta at Moss and between Såstad i Rygge and Haug i Råde was expanded two lanes.
