Stick shaker

The stall warning system is a safety system in aircraft. It warns the pilot of an impending stall during flight.

In modern aircraft measure pressure sensors in the front wing edges impending demolition of the flow. The pilot is alerted by an optical and / or acoustic signal, or a vibration of the control stick (so-called stick shaker ).

Smaller machines use a horn in the cockpit, which is directly connected to a hole in the wing, so that the stall by the resulting pressure difference, a tone sounds.

In elderly and small aircraft, the stall warning by means of a attached to the wing leading edge metal tongue. In the normal flight mode, the metal tongue is compressed by the incoming flow downward. If the angle of attack, however, α is chosen too large, so, then, that one stall threatens the metal tab is from the bottom to a flow of the result that this is pushed upward and then through an electronic contact, the signal of the stall, triggers to the pilot.
